Exhibitions runs 7th – 12th July.
Bilk Gallery from Canberra takes their March exhibition – Anew Negotiation – to Sydney as part of the 16th JMGA Conference, showcasing contemporary jewellery from Thailand.
Each of the eight artists come from diverse backgrounds and have created respected careers within their field, with seven of the eight still living in Thailand, two are university lecturers, three have founded educational jewellery studios, two are independent makers and one runs a contemporary jewellery art gallery.
Curator Bow Wasinondh writes that the exhibition “Anew Negotiation: Thai contemporary wearable art walks the view through a mixed ground of deliberations: statements of critical social issues, narrations of personal experiences and conceptual experiments for potential new meanings and forms. With practices driven by varying sources of inspirations, these bodies of work are not subscribed to ‘place’ but always revealing particular cultural sensibilities. Each artist negotiates and communicates personal contents through wearable art. ”
Opening Night: 5-8pm Friday 10th July.
