Jon and Tanya Crothers Recent Works – Paper and Metal

Unlike previous exhibitions, Jon and Tanya Crothers are focussing on extending their respective media into new areas rather than working to a common theme.

Jon is using laser-cut methods to achieve complex solid and light variations in his work. A feeling of continuous movement in his ‘fish circles’ contrasts with a more static approach to images of trees and rocks. All his cut-outs in steel have been created to produce complex shadows which become an integral part of their design.

As a printmaker, Tanya has rejected large editions in favour of combining collagraphs with painting or hand colouring so that each image is extended into several original works. This has allowed her to explore architectural interiors and exteriors as well as more traditional landscape and natural forms in a variety of different ways.

Exhibition runs from 25th November – 7th December.

Opening Night: 6pm Tuesday 25th November

No Fixed Address: Homeless Persons’ Legal Service (HPLS) 10th Anniversary Art Exhibition

Exhibition runs from 18th –  23rd November.

The Homeless Persons’ Legal Service (HPLS) is a free legal service for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We run free legal clinics around the CBD every day of the week and we assist people with legal issues such as fines, debt, Centrelink, housing and tenancy, and many others.

For our 10th anniversary this year, we are holding an exhibition of artworks produced by people who are, or have been homeless, or at risk of homelessness, that reflect their experience of being homeless, especially the legal and human rights issues they face.

Artists include Stephen Corry, Michael Lyons, Chris Barwick, Adrian “AJ ” Jansson, Gemma Lee, David McGettigan, Ian Smith, Irene Charmas, Ray Morgan and James Vincent. Many of the artists have participated in the art class at the Mission Australia Centre in Surry Hills and at the Ozanam Learning Centre in Woolloomooloo.

The works include photographs, sculpture, ceramics, paintings and ink drawings.

For further information, call Sarah Mitchell, HPLS Administrator on 8898 6545.
